Hello,
Here is a short news to announce PlayOnLinux 3.1's release.
The changes are:
- A bug with proxy server's support fixed
- The
http://www.playonlinux.com/changelog.html page is displayed after each update of PlayOnLinux, to inform the user of the changes
- Display of a mark (a number of stars) for each application depending on their popularity. This mark is automatically calculated from the collected statistics. Here is what it looks like:
- playonlinux-daemon, the new feature added in the beta. For those who didn't keep up with the development, see the
beta's release news
- A fixed bug in wine version (If you had all Wine's versions, the window won't open)
- The #playonlinux-en channel added
- The Program Files directory bug is fixed (this directory is named differently in some languages, what was resulting in directory errors)

Good evening everybody,
A new version of the
Advanced Wine Configuration plugin is now available, it brings 2 new options:
Multisampling and
Mouse Warp Override:
-The
Multisampling option allows, especially in conjunction with the
fbo one, to get a better rendering in some games like
Half-Life 2 or the
Prince of Persia series, mainly with Nvidia cards. This option enables some improvements independently of the video card too.
-The
Mouse Warp Override option prevents the mouse's pointer to escape from your application's window even with
Window Managers like
Fluxbox (For information,
Gnome is a
Desktop Environment of which
Metacity is the
Window Manager).
You can even force this state, what can be useful with games of which videos allow the mouse's pointer to be moved.
You will find the plugin in the download section or directly
HERE.
Have a good game all

Hello everybody,
Here are several informations about the Chat (or IRC).
First of all, you most probably have noticed that the "PlayOnLinux" bot was "sporadically" present, from now on, the problem is fixed: we found an hosting, and it will be present 24h/24 (or it should be, at least).
In addition, public conversations are registered, and available at this address
http://www.mulx.net/irc/
For your information, rules are applied in the channels, and you can read them here
http://www.playonlinux.com/fr/irc-rules.html
Last information, the #playonlinux channel becomes multi-language, so you can speak French, English, German, etc.
If you want to talk with peoples of the same language only, join the associated channel (for example English => #playonlinux-en )
See you soon on
irc.freenode.com channel
#playonlinux &
#playonlinux-en
PS. If you wish to talk privately with the team, #playonlinux-staff is at your disposal.
PS2. The following page
http://www.playonlinux.com/fr/chat.html is available to access to the chat from your web browser.

Hello dear POLians;
I announce via this news my departure from the team. I quit my role of website administrator

.
Why?
Well, I was more and more inactive on the website, from all the points of view, I think I was starting to be fed up. Recently, I had the choice to quit or to continue the project. Finding my presence useless, I decided to quit it. Nevertheless, I will be present if the team needs help. Moreover, being in sixth form, I decided to dedicate myself a lot more to my studies since I have pretty big projects

. I don't quit this project because I find it not promising enough; it's in continual progress and I'm convinced that, some day, every Linux user will know this project.
I will come occasionally and see how the project evolves

or even answer to questions on the forum.
I'll may not be missed since we can't say I was omnipresent on the forum

.
You will still be able to contact me at goku <at > playonlinux . com
With that, all the best with PlayOnLinux!

The first beta of your favourite program's version 3.1 is out.
Today, I want to test only one new function, that's why
only one new feature has been added in this beta.
Without further delay, I present you
playonlinux-daemon
PlayOnLinux-Daemon is a program you can run since POL 3.1 (at your computer's boot if you want) which will be able to do various tasks in real time. At this time,
playonlinux-daemon is able to detect the presence of a CD-ROM in your drive.
To proceed, after installing the latest version, execute it in a terminal with the following command:
playonlinux-daemon
Warning: Don't quit the terminal, else playonlinux-daemon will be stopped too.
Then, insert a CD-ROM in your drive and a PlayOnLinux automatic execution assistant will appear automatically.
To quit the daemon, the following command will work
playonlinux-daemon --kill
Thank-you to report to me the results of your tests for this new feature
PlayOnLinux 3.1 Beta 1 Download
Warning: it is a beta version.

Good evening everybody.
A good news for the Fedora users.
You may have noticed that since the 26th of June, 2008 the latest available version of PlayOnLinux was still the 3.0.7 one.
Since the 15th of August, 2008 at 1:32 pm, PlayOnLinux's package for Fedora is available in version 3.0.8 at last!
In addition, there is now a repository to ease the update of POL's packages. To add it to your package manager, either copy
this .repo file to your /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory or type the following commands as root:
cd /etc/yum.repos.d
wget http://mulx.net/fedora/playonlinux.repo
Note: I am sorry for being so long to update the package, I had hardware issues then I went in holydays ...
From now on, I invite Mandriva users to watch for the PlayOnLinux's package on rpmfind.net
I will not update the packages anymore.

Hello everybody,
As you know PlayOnLinux has taken on an important rise these last months. The staff regularly tries to make the piece of software known by filling articles about it in the online documentations, by talking about it in mutual aid websites for games or GNU/Linux, etc.
It often requires a lot of time, and we can't know all the websites possibly interested in our piece of software.
So if you like PlayOnLinux and want to help this project, we invite you to point out websites related to games and/or Linux where POL isn't present. Of course, you can make links or advertisements by yourself but take care to make an attractive ad, which looks pretty "professional" (I mean not something done in 2 minutes, else it harms our public image instead, it would be a pity

).
We thank all the old, current and future contributors for their efforts.
POL's staff takes advantage of it to thank all the members who had proposed us numerous scripts during the past weeks. We are touched and are indebted to you for your investments to play easily on Linux.
Off the Subject: If one of your scripts was accepted and you'd like to warn the community about it (if your script is new for example), it's possible to write a news by contacting me. Of course, I'm also open to other subjects (as long as it's related to Linux or gaming in general).
Have a good day on PlayOnLinux.

Hello everyone,
Tinou (the big boss) is currently absent. We know he will not be free until about mid August.
Given the fact that he is one of the most qualified person on the website, we would be grateful to you to wait for some technical answers which can arrive very sparingly.
Obviously, the remainning part of the staff is at your service nevertheless, and will try to help you for the best.
Thank for your understanding.
